Identifying Common Garden Birds

The student will learn about;

the physical differences between common garden passerines, corvids and raptors.

how observable behaviours can aid identification of common garden birds.

the importance of bird song and colour variation between the sexes in identifying a particular species.

Unit 2

Problems facing Garden Birds

Learn about the threats to garden birds from natural garden predators, habitat loss through human impacts and non-native species.

This module also explores the various methods for attracting a range of different birds to gardens including what to plant and what to build (nest boxes, bird tables etc) as well as what, when and whether to additionally feed.

Bird Watching Course

The Bird Watching course has been designed for anyone interested in learning more about garden birds.

The course includes information about the physical differences between common garden passerines, corvids and raptors and explores the key physical attributes of species such as the blackbird and sparrow, jay and carrion crow, sparrow hawk and buzzard.
