Unit 2

Unit 2: Animal Health and Welfare

On completion of this unit, learners will gain the knowledge and skills surrounding promoting and maintaining animal health and welfare, including recording and reporting on an animal’s physical condition and potential welfare issues.

The Level 3 Award in Dog Grooming qualification is made up of theoretical and practical units related to canine health and wellbeing and maintaining dogs’ coats. Learners will study how to prepare a dog’s coat before basic maintenance, cutting and tidying.

This qualification provides a basic introduction to dog grooming as either an owner, animal care professional or hobbyist. This Ofqual regulated qualification has been designed for learners who wish to learn the maintenance of several types of dog breeds and understand health and safety in a dog grooming salon.

On successful completion of the Level 3 Award in Dog Grooming, learners may progress onto the Level 3 Certificate in Dog Grooming or the Level 3 Diploma in Dog Grooming.

This qualification includes 2 days of practical training at one of the approved centres in either Moreton or Bedfordshire.

During your practical training, you will work alongside trained and highly experienced dog grooming professionals. This valuable, hands-on experience will allow you to enhance your skill set and develop your grooming techniques by practising on clients (dogs) in a safe dog grooming salon.

Career Progression

This Level 3 Award in Dog Grooming qualification is a great first step if you are considering a career in the canine grooming sector. It is also suitable for those who already groom dogs but don’t yet not hold a nationally recognised qualification.

Dog grooming is a popular and highly rewarding career for anyone wishing to work hands on with dogs. There is an increase in demand for professional dog groomers as dog owners seek out professional dog grooming services for their pets.

This Ofqual regulated qualification demonstrates to employers that learners have the correct theory and practical training to start a career in dog grooming.
